Elections

Approximately every six months the troop will hold elections for the following offices: Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader. The Senior Patrol Leader will be elected by a vote of the troop youth. Patrol Leaders will be elected by their patrols only. Those who wish to hold elected office must be at least a First Class Scout. All those wishing to hold either office must be current on their dues. (The Scoutmaster may make exceptions at his discretion.)

Elections will be held using following format. Nominations will be accepted for the office of Senior Patrol Leader. Anyone who is nominated but does not wish to accept may decline immediately after they have been nominated. After the nominations are closed each candidate will have a chance to say why he should be elected Senior Patrol Leader. Next, blank ballots will be passed out. Every youth member of the troop who is present will vote by placing the first and last name of the candidate they support on the ballot. Votes will be counted by the current Senior Patrol Leader and one adult. If the current Senior Patrol Leader is running for reelection or is not present, the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader will count the ballots. If the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader is disqualified for similar reasons, the Scoutmaster will select a youth to count the ballots. Elections for Patrol Leader will be held by the same format. Ballots are not necessary, but the voting must be anonymous.

No person may hold the same elected office for more than two consecutive terms. In addition, no person may be nominated for an office that is not at the meeting.

Appointed Offices

The following offices will be appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Scribe, Troop Guide and such other positions as the Scoutmaster deems appropriate. All appointees, excluding Assistant Patrol Leaders, must be First Class.  Patrol Leaders will appoint their assistants.

Leadership Corps

The Leadership Corps will consist of the following:  Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Scribe, Troop Guide and Junior Assistant Scoutmasters.  Members of the Leadership Corp will not eat as a patrol, but as guests of the other patrols.  Trip fees paid by members will be divided pro-rata among the other patrols.  This permits them to perform their official responsibilities and provide assistance to the patrols as needed during meal preparation.

New Scout Patrol

All members under the rank of First Class will be members of the New Scout Patrol.  Additional New Scout Patrols may be created at the Scoutmaster’s discretion.  The Troop Guide will serve as a youth advisor to the New Scout Patrol.  The Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader shall serve one month terms.  The positions will rotate among the members of the patrol according to a schedule to be established by the members and the Troop Guide in consultation with the Scoutmaster. Upon obtaining the rank of First Class, Scouts will immediately be assigned to another patrol.

Uniforms

The troop requires that all boys have a "Class A" uniform consisting of the Official Boy Scout Uniform Shirt and Official Boy Scout pants or shorts. Shorts or pants closely matching the color of Official Boy Scout pants are acceptable. Scout socks and belt are also required.  If this presents a financial difficulty the troop will attempt to provide a used uniform for a substantially reduced price.

The boys should have a "Class B" uniform consisting of any scout related T-shirt and Official Boy Scout pants or shorts. Shorts or pants closely matching the color of Official Boy Scout pants are acceptable. Used "Class B" shirts may be available from the troop at a substantially reduced price if this presents a financial difficulty.

"Class A" uniforms are required for all troop meetings held during the school year. "Class B" uniforms are required for summer meetings. One of these two uniforms is required for travel to and from scout outings. The uniform is not required for outings such as service projects, repelling trips, caving, canoeing, etc. where they are likely become excessively dirty or damaged or where safety is an issue.

Head gear, if worn, will be any scout related baseball style cap for "Class B" and the official baseball style cap for "Class A." No berets or non-baseball style caps are allowed. The Troop 82 Neckerchief issued to each scout is part of the troop uniform.

Camping Trips

Camping trips are one of the most memorable experiences in scouting. It teaches responsibility while having a good time.

The Monday before the weekend of the camping trip any boy who wishes to attend the camping trip must attend that meeting. Ten dollars ($10) is due at that meeting. The money will be given to the youth responsible for purchasing the food, the Grubmaster.  The Grubmaster should also take home a patrol cooler and food tote to properly pack food before arriving for the camping trip.  Food expenses must be kept under $10 per person as no extra money will be collected.  The youth purchasing the food will present a receipt for all groceries along with any remaining money to the Troop Scribe before leaving on the trip. The remaining money will be deposited in the patrol account to be spent as requested by the patrol and approved by the Troop Committee.

If the Patrol Leader is not able to attend the camping trip, the Assistant Patrol Leader will take over. But, if neither the Patrol Leader nor the Assistant Patrol Leader can attend the Patrol Leader may appoint someone in his patrol to take his place for the responsibility of his patrol's leadership on the camping trip.

There may be a fee for any damage done to Troop equipment depending on the facts and circumstances.

Hot dogs may not be used for a dinner meal. In addition Patrols may not use canned or bottled drinks on a trip. Individuals should not bring their own snack food unless instructed to do so by the Senior Patrol Leader.  Each meal on the pre-planned menu should be a well balanced and each patrol should eat their meals together.

The pre-planned duty roster must not be biased toward anyone. Each member must pull his own weight.

Aerosol sprays, including bug spray and spray deodorant, damage tent waterproofing and may not be used on or inside tents.  All flames are strictly prohibited in or near tents.  This includes lighters, matches and lanterns.

A specific time is set before each camping trip for when the troop should meet for the camping trip and also when the troop will leave for it. Anyone who is not on time will be left.

Dues

Dues are required to pay the troop’s operating expenses. These expenses include merit badges, rank, insurance, equipment maintenance and other cost. Dues also include a subscription to Boys Life Magazine.

Upon first joining the Troop, members will pay an equipment fee of $25.00.  This will entitle the new member to a Troop t-shirt and neckerchief, a patrol woggle, Troop numbers, Boy Scout Handbook and Boy Scout shoulder loops.  The new member will also be responsible for the pro-rata portion of dues charged by B.S.A. for the remainder of the year.  No other dues will be required for first year members.

After a members first year, dues will be $40.00 per year if paid by February 1st. Dues may also be paid in two installments of $25.00. It is our desire to make Scouting available to every boy, regardless of financial means, therefore, if this presents a financial hardship please contact the Scoutmaster regarding other arrangements.
